Fuzzy deutzia is a deciduous shrub known for its abundant clusters of star-shaped white or pink-tinged flowers in late spring to early summer. The leaves are rough-textured (hence “scabra”) and give the plant a slightly rustic appearance.
Distribution
Native to Japan and China, introduced to the UK in the 19th century as a decorative garden plant. It’s often grown in mixed shrub borders or as a standalone specimen.

Edibility
Not edible — grown only as a garden shrub.
Human Toxicity
Non_ToxicNo major toxicity issues, but ingestion may cause mild stomach upset; not suitable for foraging.
Pet Toxicity
Not Toxic
Active Compounds
Not well studied; contains standard plant phenolics and tannins.
Quality Issue
Action: Enhanced. Flowering shrub is clear, but the black metal structure crossing the lower part of the picture was distracting.
