Flower Details
Description
A small to medium-sized deciduous tree, valued as an ornamental for its deeply lobed, maple-like leaves and fragrant clusters of pale-yellow flowers in early summer. Native to northern China and Mongolia, where it is uncommon in the wild. In the UK, it is occasionally planted in parks and large gardens. Conservation concern is more relevant in its native range, where natural habitats are under pressure.
Distribution
Native to Mongolia and northern China; cultivated in temperate regions, including Europe.
Medicinal/Other Uses

Like other linden species, the flowers are used in herbal medicine for calming teas, said to reduce anxiety, relieve colds, and support sleep.
Edibility
Flowers and young leaves are edible — leaves can be eaten fresh, flowers used in teas.
Human Toxicity
Safe in normal amounts. Linden teas are very mild and generally safe, though excessive use has been linked to rare heart concerns in susceptible individuals.
Pet Toxicity
Not Toxic
Active Compounds
Flavonoids, volatile oils, mucilage, and tannins.
