Flower Details
Description
A charming ornamental with clusters of bright pink, five-petaled flowers and clover-like leaves. Often grown in window boxes, borders, and hanging baskets. Native to South America, but widely cultivated and naturalised in many parts of Europe.
Distribution
Native to Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, but now common in gardens worldwide. Occasionally escapes into the wild in the UK.
Medicinal/Other Uses

Traditionally used in folk medicine as a mild diuretic and for fevers.
Edibility
Leaves and flowers are edible in small quantities, with a pleasantly sharp, lemony taste due to oxalic acid. Often used as a garnish.
Human Toxicity

Contains oxalates — excessive consumption can irritate kidneys and is risky for those prone to kidney stones.
Pet Toxicity

Mildly toxic to cats and dogs if eaten in larger amounts.
Active Compounds
Oxalic acid, flavonoids, and vitamin C.
