Description
Spindle is a deciduous shrub or small tree reaching up to 6 metres in height. It is known for its striking pink and orange fruits and vibrant autumn foliage. The plant has smooth, grey bark and simple, opposite leaves.
Distribution
Native to Europe, it is commonly found in hedgerows, woodlands, and scrublands across the continent. It has also been introduced to parts of North America.
Medicinal/Other Uses

✅ Traditionally used as a purgative and for treating lice due to its insecticidal properties.
Edibility
Inedible - all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested.
Human Toxicity

Highly Toxic - ingestion of berries can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and in severe cases, kidney and liver damage.
