Flower Details
Description
A tall, upright perennial producing dense sprays of violet or purple daisy-like flowers with golden centres in late summer and autumn. Symphyotrichum novi-angliae is much loved by pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, and adds vibrant colour to the late-season garden.
Distribution
Native to North America; widely grown in UK gardens and occasionally naturalised along roadsides and wasteland.

Native American tribes traditionally used various aster species as herbal remedies for coughs, fevers, and skin irritations, though S. novi-angliae is now primarily ornamental.
