Description
Bistorta amplexicaulis is a hardy, clump-forming perennial with slender spikes of pink, red, or white flowers above heart-shaped leaves. It blooms from summer into autumn and is a reliable plant for damp, shady borders and naturalistic gardens.
Distribution
Native to the Himalayas; naturalised in parts of Europe as an ornamental garden plant.
Medicinal/Other Uses
Related species (Bistorta officinalis) have been used in herbal medicine for treating diarrhoea and inflammation due to their tannin content. B. amplexicaulis shares similar though milder properties.
Edibility
Leaves and roots of related species were occasionally eaten when cooked, but B. amplexicaulis is not generally used as food.

Generally safe; minimal risk unless consumed in large quantities raw.
