Description
Yellow loosestrife is a tall, clump-forming perennial with upright stems and whorls of bright yellow star-shaped flowers in summer. Its leaves are oval and slightly hairy, and the plant spreads gradually through underground rhizomes, forming large patches in gardens or wild areas.
Distribution
Native to central and southern Europe, but widely cultivated in the UK as a garden plant. It thrives in moist soils and sunny to partly shaded positions.
Medicinal/Other Uses
Historically, some Lysimachia species were used in folk medicine for wound healing and as mild anti-inflammatory herbs, but Lysimachia punctata has little recorded medicinal use.
Edibility
Not traditionally eaten and best avoided as a food source.
