Description
A vigorous, twining deciduous climber with long racemes of fragrant, violet-blue flowers in late spring. A highly prized ornamental, often trained on walls, pergolas, and arches.
Distribution
Native to China. Naturalised in some parts of Europe, but in the UK it is primarily cultivated.

No significant medicinal use. Mainly ornamental.
Edibility
Not edible – seeds and pods are toxic.

Seeds and pods are particularly poisonous if eaten.
